million children witness domestic violence in this country.

Studies on the
prevalence of domestic violence suggest that from one-fifth to
one-third of all women will be physically assaulted by a partner or
ex-partner during their lifetime (Council on Scientific Affairs,
American Medical Association. 1991. "Violence Against Women:

Domestic violence
is an epidemic in the United States as well as here in Nebraska.
Estimates range from 960,000 incidents of violence against a
current or former spouse, boyfriend, or girlfriend per year(1) to
3.9 million women who are physically abused by their husbands or
live-in partners per year(2) ((1)U.S. Department of justice,
